My research addresses the critical need for better infectious disease diagnostics by leveraging metagenomic next generation sequencing (mNGS) to simultaneously evaluate host gene expression, airway microbes and antibiotic resistance genes from a single clinical sample. In addition, my work aims to understand the biology of infectious lung disease by elucidating host, pathogen and environmental factors that influence respiratory infection susceptibility, severity and contribution to lung injury.
