STANDARD PRECAUTIONS

1. Clean hands

 upon entering the room

 before and after patient contact

 after removing gloves

 before exiting the room

 after contact with patient environment and equipment

2. Clean and disinfect equipment between patient uses

3. Use gloves for contact with blood or body fluids, excretions and secretions

4. Anticipate need for protective barriers (gown, mask, etc.) according to patient condition
